Killarney is moving with the times and introducing credit card functionality to the first town in Kerry. At this months meeting of Killarney Municipal District, Councillors were told of plans for a 12 week lead in ,for the delivery of these parking meters. It is also hoped that an online payment  option will be introduced later in the year.

MULTI-STOREY CAR PARK:

The possibility of multi storey car park is being examined at the Aras Padraig site according to council management who said that a masterplan is being prepared for this location.

There has been calls for a multi storey car park for Killarney town to solve parking issues in the town,

Rock Road car park which is to open in May with an additional 190 spaces will bring an extra 10 % parking to the town. Land has been offered by Kerry Parents and Friends for parking during work hours which could also be a solution. Management has also been in discussions with St Brendan’s Trust about lands in front of the Convent and adjacent to the Cathedral to resolve parking issues. Cllr Niall Kelleher said that “inadequate parking ” will have  serious effects for business in the town if the issues are not addressed.

Of course the best way to avoid parking meters and traffic congestion is to leave the car at home as Killarney is serviced with regular public transport from all parts of Ireland and Sage taxis are on hand to taxi you anywhere you wish to go.
