After hearing rave reviews and reading all the reviews on Facebook, my husband and I decided to venture to Murphy Brownes Restaurant in the heart of the bustling town of Killarney. The decor was so classy, we had a table with high chairs upholstered with crushed velvet, I’m not usually a fan of high tables and chairs but these were so comfy and oozed luxury. The atmosphere was great, on a Thursday evening with beautiful sunshine there was plenty if chatter coming from the people dining near us. Many recalling where they had heard of the newly opened Murphy Brownes Restaurant, one woman an American tourist telling her friends how she heard the lamb shank “was to die for” and after she had finished she told us all that it was true it really was to die for. That was a great sign of what was to come.
For starters we feasted on chicken wings and vegetable soup. The soup was beautiful and the chicken wings incredible. The meat of the chicken wings was so tender it fell off the bone. Next course we both chose the beef burger. The 8 oz beef burger was out of this world, it was stacked high with sautéed onions, melted cheese, bacon and ketchup . It reminded me of my youth when as a treat we would get a burger from the local chippervan . The smell of sautéed onions brought me right back to my childhood and the taste of onions and ketchup is just pure heaven.
The staff were so friendly, super efficient and even the owner Deirdre was interacting with everyone, making sure we were all enjoying ourselves. Service was extremely prompt, which was a huge bonus. We were too full to sample desserts.
The restaurant has downstairs and upstairs seating, a good size with upstairs taking the overflow. Everything was spotlessly clean, especially the toilets.I was informed that even the gents had a candle burning and a dainty flower arrangement in each cubicle.
This is truly a great addition to the town of Killarney and we saw first hand where are the excellent reviews were coming from. We would highly recommend this restaurant. Look elite we have a friends birthday coming up very soon and we will be at only too delighted to sample more of the great menu. Maybe next time we will try the lamb shank.
